AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics
course. Main topics include:
-
Kinematics.
- Dynamics.
- Circular Motion and Gravitation.
- Energy.
- Momentum.
- Simple Harmonic Motion.
- Torque and Rotational Motion.
- Electric Charge and Electric Force.
- DC Circuits.
- Mechanical Waves and Sound.
The exam is approximately three hours long, with mutiple choice and free response questions, with duration
of 1 hour and 30 minutes each, carrying equal credit. The free response section contains 6-7 questions. Typically,
one question is laboratory-based.
AP Physics 2 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics
course. Main topics include:
- Fluids.
- Thermodynamics.
- Electrical force, field, and potential.
- Electric circuits.
- Magnetism and electromagnetic induction.
- Geometric and physical optics.
- Quantum, Atomic, and Nuclear Physics.
AP Physics C is equivalent to first year of college course for Physics and Engineering majors. This
is calculus based course combining the areas of Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism.
The two subjects can be taken as combined or separate. Mechanics exam consist of Newtonian Physics with
Calculus at introductory level. The exam is one and half hour long. It
consist of multiple choice questions and free response questions, each carrying equal credit. Electricity and
Magnetism exam is 1 hour and 30 minutes duration, divided into two parts of multiple choice questions, and
free response questions, with each carrying equal credit. Calculator is allowed
for the free-response part of the exam.Tables of commonly used physics equations are provided. For multiple
choice part, no points are deducted for incorrect answers, and no credit for unanswered questions. Free response
section answers are credited depending on the quality of the solutions and explanations.
